The biggest problem for women isn't curing a Candida infection, it's avoiding repeated vaginal yeast infections from plaguing them over and over throughout each year.
About half of all women experience their first vaginal yeast infection before age 30. But about ¼ of all women will find themselves fighting Candida over and over, as much as four times per
year or even more. For these women, vaginal yeast infections are a constant struggle.
Those women need to know that Candida infections can be prevented.
Here are some of the reasons that women suffer from repeated vaginal yeast infections:
- Chronic problems with the immune system
- The immune system can be hindered by many different things, in many different ways.
- Alcohol
- Bad nutrition
- Prolonged battles against other illnesses
- Pregnancy
- Medications which suppress the immune system, including an over-dependence on ibuprofen and/or antibiotics.
- Poorly-controlled diabetes
- Tight-fitting pants and synthetic underwear both contribute to vaginal yeast growth.
- Birth control pills

Other Reasons for Repeated Vaginal Yeast Infections
Too many doctors tend to prescribe a drug that fights the Candida, but not the cause behind the infection. Diflucan, boric acid, and other common vaginal yeast infection treatments will all be effective in the short run, but for some women, a drug simply can't get to the root of the problem.
So what is "the root of the problem" for women suffering repeated vaginal yeast infections? For one thing, if your body has been host to Candida overgrowth, and you've taken medicines to fight it over and over, the yeast can adapt and become resistant to the drugs. As the yeast infections cause other secondary problems, you take still more drugs to deal with those symptoms. All this weakens your immune system while making the Candida colonies stronger. The yeast embeds itself deep into your tissues, where it's ready to repeat the cycle of infection.
It doesn't help that so many people will stop taking a medication as soon as the symptoms begin to subside. That sort of practice does more harm than good - it helps your infections "train" themselves against the medication, and allows the stronger Candida to survive.
Yet another common cause for women suffering from repeated vaginal yeast infections, is lifestyle. Synthetic undergarments have been linked to vaginal Candida overgrowth for years. Tight pants are also a major contributor - all of these garments prevent air flow to the vagina, meaning it's easier for Candida to flourish.
Many womens' products contain animal estrogen. Any form of estrogen will change the chemistry of the vagina in favor of Candida growth. Even if your lotions, perfumes, and other products don't use animal extracts, most of them do slight-but-chronic damage to your immune system. All it takes is a simple illness like a head cold to tip the scales strongly in favor of another vaginal yeast infection.
